Give freedom to Ilgar Mammadov, Ilham!



Ilgar Mammadov still remains in prison



4 years have passed after the arrest of Ilgar Mammadov. Despite European Court of Human Rights repeated calls to Azerbaijani government to set Ilgar Mammadov free Azerbaijani authourities have refused to free Ilgar Mammadov.

Prison administration allows him to meet only lawyers and family members.  His close associates cannot meet with him and have not had chance to speak him since 4 years.

Ilgar Mammadov has been activist since his student years.  He was one of the first people who organized protest  before Azerbaijani delegation in Moscow after Black January.

I have never had chance to meet him in person. But I have always found him inspiring and brave person who is not afraid to fight for the rights of Azerbaijani people.

I believe if he had chance to be selected for presidency Mr.Ilgar would improve our country.

Even though Mr. Ilgar does not have hope to be included to pardon order of Ilham Aliyev me and my associates believe that he will set free soon.



Azerbaijan government is afraid of Mr. Ilgar. He is very educative and intelligent who has become popular among people and have gained society’s support.  He has been among people in all important protests.  ( Such as Ismayilli events, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy protest, protest against the death of soldiers)
Azerbaijani government wanted to achieve the collapse of REAL Movement by arresting him. But all of us are connected to REAL Movement deeply and we will do our bests to achieve democracy in Azerbaijan

If you had an opportunity to meet president, what would you tell him?

I remember as a kid I would read a lot of books. I started with reading different tales. One thing I never forget and would love to apply to my country today. In those tales King (Padishah) would wear old clothes and would become unrecognizable. He would walk around the city, talk to people ask them questions about "How the King manages the country? What do you think of King?" People would never recognize him and share their problems or positive opinions about the King. At the end King would go back to his kingdom and start doing reforms for the best future of his kingdom. But today? Do president really hears people's problems?
