Azerbaijani investigate journalist. Vanished from Georgia


Afgan Mukhtarli is an Azerbaijan investigate journalist who was living in Georgia. On 29th of May his wife has reported of him missing. Afgan Mukhtarli and his wife has asked for asylum from Georgian government in 2015 because they were afraid for their safety due to  Afgan’s investugations about corruption of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

Lawyer of Afgan Mukhtarli have spoken to him and said “ Afgan Mukhtarli was abducted in Tbilisi by plain men who spoke Georgian.  The men tied him took into the car and brought him to the border of Azerbaijan and Tbilisi. Afgan Mukhtarli has told that when they were crossing the border, these men had put 10.000 euros into his pockets so Azerbaijani police could blame him of smuggling.

His wife said “Afgan is arrested because of his posts anti-Azerbaijan government.

HRW:  Afgan had escaped from Azerbaijan government to Georgia to find safety but it seems that he was not enough far from Azerbaijani government.

Group of Azerbaijani and Georgian citizens have protested in front of Georgian government building.

If you had an opportunity to meet president, what would you tell him?

I remember as a kid I would read a lot of books. I started with reading different tales. One thing I never forget and would love to apply to my country today. In those tales King (Padishah) would wear old clothes and would become unrecognizable. He would walk around the city, talk to people ask them questions about "How the King manages the country? What do you think of King?" People would never recognize him and share their problems or positive opinions about the King.
